Location: Cologne. Germany

This is the fence that divides the railroads and the sidewalk on Hohenzollern Bridge, in Cologne. It was constructed between 1907 and 1911, and it's nowadays one of the main public transport infrastructures of Cologne as connects Cologne's central station (Köln Hbf) with major European cities on the other side of the Rhine river.

Since 2008 people have placed love padlocks on the fence between the sidewalk and the tracks. The photograph was taken in November 2011. Love locks have existed for quite a while but it seems no one knows the origin of this curious tradition.
