Forest Canyon overlook from Trail Ridge Road Rocky Mountain

Location: Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park. Colorado. US

Trail Ridge Road is the name for a stretch of U.S. Highway 34. This is one of the most known and beautiful scenic roads in the country; it traverses Rocky Mountain National Park from Estes Park, Colorado in the East to Grand Lake, Colorado in the West.

With a maximum elevation of 3,713 m / 12,183 ft, near Fall River Pass, it is the highest continuous paved road in the United States. It is closed during the winter, and often remains closed until late spring or early summer depending on the snowpack. It requires access to Rocky Mountain National Park even for local residents.

From this road you have amazing views of some of the 54 mountains with summits over 14,000 feet (4,267 meters) in Colorado. In particular, this photo was taken from a viewpoint overlooking Forest Canyon. The peaks right in front are Stones Peak (3,938 m / 12,922 feet), Spraque Mountain (3,875 m / 12,713 feet), Mt Jullian and Mt Ida.
