Moraine Lake Banff National Park Canada Alberta black and white bw glacier

Location: Banff National Park. Alberta. Canada

This is Moraine Lake, one of the most beautiful lakes in Banf National Park, at the heart of the Canadian Rocky Mountains.

This glacially-fed lake is is situated in the Valley of the Ten Peaks, at an elevation of 1,885 m (6,183 feet).

The water has a milky blue tone caused by the refraction of light on the glacial rock flour in suspension. This phenomenon can be seen also in other lakes of Jasper and Banff National Parks, such as Peyto Lake or Bow Lake.

Here you have the same photo in color, so that you can appreciate the blue-ish tone of the water.
