Grand Canyon of Yellowstone waterfall river mountain forest viewpoint

Location: Yellowstone National Park. Wyoming. US

This photo shows the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone and Lower Falls from one of the viewpoints of the South Rim of the canyon. This breathtaking place is without any doubt one of the most photographed location in Yellowstone National Park.

The canyon is approximately 10000 years old, 32 km (20 miles) long and 366 meters (1200 ft) deep. The distance between both sides varies between 450 m (1/4 miles) and 1200 m (3/4 miles).

There are plenty of trails and viewpoints from both the North Rim (Inspiration Point, Grandview Point, Cascade Overlook Trail, Brink of Lower Falls...) and the South Rim (Artist Point, South Rim Trail, Uncle Tom´s Trail...) The photo was taken from the South Rim, probably the best location if you want to have in the frame the walls of the canyon, the waterfall and the shape of the Yellowstone river (not in vain there is a spot called Artist's Point)
